Help Snow Force One name one of our snowplows!

Winter weather is serious business at our airports, but naming the equipment that helps us tackle it doesn’t have to be.

Our Airfield Maintenance team works around the clock during winter weather to help keep runways, taxiways, and other critical areas of the airfield clear. This year, we’re inviting our community to help us name one of the multi-task equipment vehicles, or MTEs, that helps get the job done.

Submit your name

Think you have the perfect name for one of our MTEs? Sent it our way!

We’re looking for creative, family-friendly names with a little personality. Bonus points for aviation and/or Columbus inspired ideas!

What happens next?

Once submissions close, team members will review the entries and select a group of finalists.

Then it’s your turn again: the public will vote to choose the winning name.

Voting will take place October 12-16, with the winning name expected to be announced October 21.

And this isn’t just for bragging rights. The winning name will be printed and applied to one of our MTEs, making it an official part of our winter operations.

What does the winner get?

The person who submits the winning name will receive:

  • A CMH swag bag
  • An invitation to see the newly named MTE in person
  • A behind-the-scenes tour of the MTE and a closer look at the equipment our team uses to tackle winter weather

Meet Snow Force One

When winter weather arrives at our airports, our team is ready. And when the snow keeps falling, the work keeps going.

During Winter Storm Fern in January, our team worked for 37 straight hours, clearing approximately 1.5 million cubic yards of snow, the equivalent of about 302 million gallons. Crews completed 27 runway snow removal runs during active snowfall, with 110 Airport Authority team members playing a role in the snow removal operation.

It takes people across the organization, specialized equipment, and plenty of coordination to keep an airport moving through an Ohio winter. We call that team Snow Force One.

Want to join Snow Force One?

Our winter operation needs more than powerful equipment. It needs a great team behind it.

Each year, the Airport Authority hires Winter Seasonal team members to help support snow and ice removal operations at our airports. These employees work alongside our Airfield Maintenance team to help keep the airport operating safely during winter weather.
