Soaring into summer travel

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The unofficial start of summer, Memorial Day, also ushers in the start of a busy travel season. Analysts with the Columbus Regional Airport Authority (CRAA) predict another active season at John Glenn Columbus International Airport (CMH) and Rickenbacker International Airport (LCK), following last year’s record-breaking passenger levels.

Offering even more options for summer adventures, our airlines have added 11 new and returning nonstop routes since May 1.

Need some vacation inspiration? Consider exploring some of these exciting destinations:
  • Toronto, Canada: For sweeping city views (Air Canada, began May 1)
  • Hartford: Find your own Luke’s Diner for Gilmore Girls fans (Breeze Airways, began May 1)
  • Norfolk: Meander down a beach boardwalk (Breeze Airways, began May 1)
  • Portland, Maine: Lighthouses and lobster rolls await (Breeze Airways, began May 2)
  • Denver: Catch a concert at Red Rocks (Frontier Airlines, began May 22; Southwest Airlines & United Airlines offer year-round service)

Insider tips to make your trip a walk on the beach:

Keep your cool: Start with an empty suitcase, so you know what’s in your bag and fly through the TSA checkpoint. Don’t forget, REAL ID enforcement has begun; check your license status before you fly.

Avoid a heatwave of stress: Arrive early and know your parking options. Once you get through the security checkpoint, you can sit back, relax, and start your vacation with a drink or snack in our concourses.

Don’t get sunburnt out by long lines: Download your airline’s mobile app for quick access to boarding passes and real-time flight updates.

Make a splash on your return: If someone is picking you up, encourage them to wait in the free cell phone lot, just before the rental car facility on International Gateway. Or try the Green Shuttle Lot – with a one-hour grace period, there’s plenty of time and space to wait comfortably.
