COLUMBUS, Ohio — Beginning September 9, drivers heading to John Glenn Columbus International Airport (CMH) will encounter an updated approach to the terminal, adjustments to the cell phone waiting areas, and a detour leaving the terminal and parking garage. The changes accommodate construction progress, as work on CMH Next, the new terminal construction project, continues. Drive safely and follow the signs to keep traffic moving.

What’s changing:

  • New terminal approach road: When approaching the terminal along International Gateway, drivers will be directed to the new permanent roadway that runs in front of the new terminal construction site.
  • Temporary cell phone lot closure: The temporary cell phone lot located between the John Glenn Columbus sign and the rental car center will close. The cell phone lot in front of Lane Aviation, near the terminal, will remain open for drivers awaiting arriving passengers.
  • Green Lot grace period continues: The Green Lot will continue to offer a one-hour grace period for those waiting to pick up passengers, allowing drivers to exit free of charge within an hour of entry.
  • Detour leaving the terminal: Drivers leaving the terminal will be directed to a well-marked detour before reaching westbound International Gateway or Sawyer Rd.
  • Detour leaving the parking garage: Drivers leaving the parking garage will follow a well-marked detour involving U-turns before reaching westbound International Gateway or Sawyer Rd.

Construction continues along Sawyer Rd. Traffic approaching the terminal from Hamilton Rd. will be limited. Drivers should follow detour signs to I-270/I-670 to access the airport. Plan ahead and allow extra time when visiting the airport. Digital message boards and updated signage will provide the most current directions.
