Travel made easier at Columbus airports

Older Americans Month is observed every May. This year, we celebrate the incredible contributions older adults have made to our communities and society. At our airports, we recognize the importance of travel for seniors, whether it’s visiting loved ones, exploring new destinations, or simply enjoying a change of scenery.

We understand that navigating airports can sometimes feel overwhelming. That’s why we’re committed to providing a comfortable and stress-free travel experience for all passengers, especially older adults.

Here are some of the ways we make flying easier:

  • Accessible parking: Accessible parking is available 24 hours a day and includes ADA designated spaces in all parking areas. All shuttle buses are equipped with lift gear to accommodate wheelchairs and electric scooters.
  • Wheelchair assistance: Airlines provide assistance for travelers who need help through the terminal. Wheelchair accommodations can be made through your airline when making reservations, or by calling their reservation line. Bringing a walker along? No problem! Walkers are permitted through the security checkpoint. (It’s best to double check with your airline as walkers might need to be checked at the gate and stored under the aircraft during flight.)
  • Restrooms: All restrooms are fully equipped with wheelchair access. Family restrooms are also conveniently located on ticketing, baggage claim, and in each concourse.
  • Get assistance from Airport Ambassadors: Ambassadors assist passengers with directions, information about the Columbus region, and other general airport help. You can find them at the information desks on both the ticketing and baggage claim levels.

Tips for a smooth travel experience:

  • Plan your trip: Book your flights in advance, especially during peak travel times. You can see a full list of nonstop destinations from Columbus on our website.
  • Arrive early: Allow plenty of time for check-in, security screening, and boarding. We recommend at least 90 minutes prior to departure.
  • Comfortable clothing: Wear comfortable shoes and loose-fitting clothing for ease of movement.
  • Bring essentials: Pack any medications, prescriptions, and reading materials you may need on your journey.
  • Download your airline’s app: Airlines have mobile apps that provide real-time flight information and other helpful resources.

This Older Americans Month, we want to assure senior travelers that we’re here to make your journey as smooth and enjoyable as possible.
