Pi Day pizza party: A delicious celebration

Happy PIE Day! Pizzas sitting on a table at John Glenn airport.

Pizza is undoubtedly one of the most popular foods in the world, loved by millions for its delicious taste and convenience. And what better place to enjoy a slice of pizza than at the airport, where travelers are often looking for a quick and satisfying meal before catching their flight? Our staff stopped by the newly renovated Wolfgang Puck Kitchen Counter on Concourse B to test out their pizzas ahead of Pi Day.

BBQ Chicken Pizza

Lindsay: This was my favorite – maybe it’s because I ate it first when I was hungriest but it hit the spot. Often BBQ chicken pizzas have bacon on them and, as much as I love bacon, I’m only human afterall, it’s always overkill in this application. So I appreciated that this one stuck to the basics of chicken, cheese, BBQ sauce, corn, and cilantro. The sauce was just a bit spicy to me but I’m a wimp. Ranking: 1st place

Alyssa: The sauce was a great mix of sweet and tangy. Both the cilantro and corn were unexpected additions that I really enjoyed. Ranking: 2nd place

Efua: Absolutely delicious! The combination of corn, red onion, chicken, and BBQ sauce was perfect. The flavors blended together beautifully, and I couldn’t get enough of it. Ranking: 1st place

Kati: I do not like cilantro. My first bite was cilantro. It was all uphill from there, however. The chicken was great and the BBQ sauce was the perfect amount of tangy. I was also pleasantly surprised that I enjoyed corn on pizza so much! Ranking: 3rd place

Margherita Pizza

Efua: If you’re in the mood for something simple but delicious, the margherita pizza is a great choice. The mozzarella and basil combo is always a winner, and the wood-fired crust adds the perfect touch of crispiness. Ranking: 4th place

Alyssa: Simple but yummy. I’m always in the mood for a mozzarella and basil combo. Ranking: 5th place

Kati: The sauce was sweet and tasty. A good choice if you’re feeling something simple but delicious. Ranking: 5th place

Lindsay: A great choice before traveling – not too heavy or spicy. A great showcase for the crispy wood-fired crust. Ranking: 5th place

Pepperoni Pizza

Lindsay: I don’t like pizzas with too much pepperoni and this had just the right amount and it was perfectly spaced. It could use a side of extra sauce IMO. Ranking: 3rd place

Alyssa: The ultimate classic! The cheese was nice and gooey and the pepperoni itself was the right amount of salty and tangy with just a little bit of spice. Ranking: 1st place

Efua: The cheese is gooey and delicious, and the pizza had the perfect balance of pepperoni. Ranking: 3rd place

Kati: It’s your classic pepperoni goodness. The pepperoni was tasty, and there was a good amount of cheese (including parmesan!). Ranking: 2nd place

Meatball & Mozzarella

Lindsay: I liked it, it was just that I liked the others more. I liked that the sauce had pieces of tomato in it. I did have a piece of it cold the next day and it was a really good breakfast. Ranking: 4th place

Alyssa: The sauce and cheese are just the right amount of sweetness, and they don’t skimp on the size of the meatball! Ranking: 4th place

Efua: The meatballs were nice and juicy; however I’m not the biggest fan of meatballs that’s why it’s 5th place for me. Ranking: 5th place

Kati: The meatball was good and the big bites of tomato were the perfect amount of sweet mixed with the cheesy goodness of the pizza. Ranking: 4th place

The Italian Pizza

Lindsay: Where banana peppers are is where I want to be. In addition to the peppers, this was a winning combo of soppressata, pepperoni, red onions, and basil. Flavorful enough that just a bit goes a long way – a perfect pre-flight amount. Ranking: 2nd place

Alyssa: Love the complexity of flavors in this one. Always love a banana pepper and some red onions. Ranking: 3rd place

Efua: Great combination of flavors! I love banana peppers, so it was very enjoyable with every bite. Ranking: 2nd place

Kati: This one is definitely my first choice. It had a wide range of flavors going on, from sweet to salty. My only complaint? I had to share! Ranking: 1st place

So, what was the crew’s collective favorite? The BBQ chicken pizza! Although, you can’t go wrong with any of the flavors offered.

Check out the newly renovated Wolfgang Puck Kitchen Counter on Concourse B daily from 5:00 a.m.-last departing flight (open until 9:15 p.m. on Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday).
