Thank you to Mayor Ginther and the City of Columbus for issuing a proclamation recognizing December as General Aviation Appreciation Month! We are honored to receive this recognition along with our partners at The Ohio State University Airport. Columbus Regional Airport Authority’s Director of Communications & Public Affairs Kristen Easterday recently met with The Ohio State University Airport’s Director Adam Wolf to celebrate.
The proclamation reads:
WHEREAS, the Mayor of the City of Columbus, Ohio has the authority to recognize occasions of outstanding significance; and
WHEREAS, Columbus, Ohio has a significant interest in the continued vitality of aviation, aircraft manufacturing, aviation educational institutions, aviation organizations and community airports; and
WHEREAS, Columbus, Ohio is home to four of Ohio’s 150 public-use airports including Bolton Field, The Ohio State University Airport- Don Scott, John Glenn Columbus International Airport and Rickenbacker International Airport; and
WHEREAS, Columbus’ airports have a total impact of more than $7.9 billion; and
WHEREAS, throughout Ohio there are numerous interdependent stakeholders and partners including 16,251 pilots, 118 fixed-base operators, 130 repair stations, 284 heliports, 15 FAA-approved pilot schools, 5,265 student pilots and 3,065 flight instructors; and
WHEREAS, aviation not only supports our economy, it improves overall quality of life by supporting emergency medical and healthcare services, law enforcement, firefighting and disaster relief, and by transporting business travelers to their destinations quickly and safely; and
WHEREAS, the nation faced COVID-19 impacts but Columbus airports remained open to serve the needs of the public and businesses.
NOW THEREFORE, I, Andrew J. Ginther, Mayor of the City of Columbus, Ohio, do hereby proclaim general aviation a vital strategic resource to the City and declare December as
GENERAL AVIATION APPRECIATION MONTH
Throughout Columbus and encourage all members of our community to join us in recognition of this observance.
