To compete in the market, you must compete on the ground. The coast-to-coast rail service at Rickenbacker International Airport (LCK) gives you an edge. Intermodal shipping options from coast to coast are available through two of the nation’s largest rail providers in the Rickenbacker region.
Norfolk Southern Rickenbacker Intermodal Terminal
A major transporter of coal and industrial products, Norfolk Southern operates the most extensive intermodal network in the east. Covering about 21,000 route miles in 22 states and the District of Columbia, Norfolk Southern serves every major container port in the eastern U.S. and provides connections to other rail carriers.
The high-capacity, high-speed, state-of-the-art facility was opened in 2008. It’s served by double-stacked ocean container cars, and connects to major East Coast and West Coast seaports.
The wheeled facility with non-stacking and automated dispatch sees an average truck dwell time less than 20 minutes compared to hours of queue at other ports.
The terminal serves both domestic and international ocean container customers, with 75% international traffic and 25% domestic traffic. Inbound freight is 55% from the West Coast and 45% from the East Coast.
CSX Columbus Intermodal
In the Columbus Region and beyond, CSX Corp. provides traditional rail service and intermodal container transportation. The company’s network covers 21,000 route miles in 23 states, the District of Columbia, and Ontario and Quebec in Canada.
